Choreographer Callout

Are you a choreographer aged 16-25? We need you!

We’re looking for two young choreographers to create brand new 20 minute works on our dancers as part of our 2019 Triple Bill at the Meat Market in Melbourne.

At SYDC we understand how hard it is for up and coming choreographers to get their work funded and therefore get their voice out into the world creatively.

We believe in the importance of youth having a place to express themselves through art and we wholeheartedly believe in the power of young people working together to create beautiful things for our world.

That’s why we’re excited to be producing our second Triple Bill season featuring three brand new works from three incredible choreographers.

This is a volunteer position, but all choreographers in the season will receive:

  • Exposure to dancers, dance schools, dance teachers, other choreographers and the wider dance and theatre industry possibly generating additional paid work

  • Valuable experience working in professional environment on a large dance project

  • Costume designer

  • Lighting designer

  • Access to composers if original music is desired

  • Access to large rehearsal space and time to create the work

  • Full marketing for the work as part of the Triple Bill

  • Photography of their work

  • Video of their work

  • $500 grant from Spark Youth Dance Company for future choreography endeavours at end of season

  • 4x free tickets to the season at the Meat Market

Email admin@sparkyouthdance.com.au with:

- Your resume

- Your age

- An example video of any previous choreography work you have done (or a video of yourself dancing your own choreography)

- What you love about choreographing

- Any ideas you have for the work you might create (totally not required but if you have any ideas already we’re interested to hear them!)
